Body

Request Action:

The Fire Rescue Dept. EMS Division is respectfully requesting the replacement of their current stretchers that have reached their life expectancy.  The Fire Rescue Dept. has been using the Stryker Power Pro Cots for approximately ten (10) years.  These battery-operated stretchers have played an essential role in the way we provide service to our residents and guests. They assist our first responders by significantly reducing the strain placed on their backs by raising and lowering patients with the simple push of a button.

Need:

The Fire Rescue Dept. is requesting to replace 6 of its current Stryker stretchers with new ones.

Summary Explanation/ Background:

The Power Cots provided by Stryker are currently the industry standard in which 95% of EMS Departments in Broward County use for patient care transportation. Its powered features for raising and lowering patients significantly reduce the amount of strain placed on the caretakers back when operating in emergency situations. According to data provided by the CDC and (OIICS) Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System, there were a total of 1900 back related injuries correlating with the source of stretchers, backboards, wheeled cots and stair chairs. Overexertion and bodily reaction comprised of 6,100 back injuries. The Power Load System minimizes injury risk while improving patient and personnel safety. Thus; reducing the exertion on the firefighter. Majority of back injuries only require the essence of a single movement in the wrong direction. The Lauderhill Fire Rescue Dept. transports approximately 8,000 patients per year and the stretcher is the single item that is utilized on all transports. The Power Cots are UL and IEC certified (See attached) and meet all the KKK-A-1822F standards for emergency vehicles.
