Title

ORDINANCE NO. 17O-02-116:  AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL, CHAPTER 15, ARTICLE III, RECREATION FACILITIES FEES, SECTION 15-35, FEES, RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR REGISTRATION, USE AND RENTAL; MODIFYING THE SCHEDULE OF FEES FOR SUMMER CAMP; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE (REQUESTED BY CITY MANAGER, CHARLES FARANDA).

Body

Requested Action:

The Parks and Leisure Services Department is requesting that the City Commission approve  a change to the ordinance Part one, chapter 15, article III, sec 12-35 - Fees, rules and regulations for registration, use and rental , change/add to Summer Camp fee.

Need:

Summary Explanation/Background:

The Parks and Leisure Services Department has recognized a need for low cost summer quality summer programming and encourage early registration in a very competitive market for out-of-school summer child care services.  Add an “Early Bird” registration fee of $490 for residents, $560 for non-residents, ending deadline to pay the lower fee on May 15 each Summer Camp registration period with the permission to extend/modify the deadline date as authorized by the Parks Director/Assistant Director.

Summary Explanation/ Background:

The Parks and Leisure Services Department surveyed several neighboring City Summer Camp programs.  Through cost analysis, the Lauderhill Summer Camp will be able to sustain itself through operational cost cutting measures (modify amount of supplies/better trip price negotiation due to increase in participant numbers) directly attributed to the increased enrollment pre and post  new “early bird” rate. This will also allow Lauderhill Camps to be competitive with other similarly priced City Summer Camp programs.

City of Tamarac Full Day summer Camp 8 weeks                     RESIDENT $540                              NON-RESIDENT $645/2nd Child

City of Oakland Park Full Day Summer Camp 4 weeks           RESIDENT $158($316 8wks)        NON-RESIDENT $250($500 8wks)

Other benefits will be increased affordability for parents  to have somewhere safe for their children to be out of school, particularly for those parents/guardians of at-risk children.  Children benefit from the myriad activities, STEM/educational/Fitness opportunities.  Lauderhill Summer Camp participants also will receive lunch and snacks at no additional charge through the Florida Summer Feeding program offered on-site at Lauderhill Park facilities.
