Need Summary Explanation/ Background:
The Water Treatment Plant’s main 800kw generator that is approximately 30 years of age requires repairs related to its programmable logics Controller (PLC) and interlock system. On 8/1/2025 we experienced a problem with the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) 800kw generator breaker interlock system. Therefore, a temporary generator was needed as well as repairs diagnosis and testing of the existing the main 800kw generator.
During testing of the generator breaker and the utility breaker interlock system, the interlock failed to work correctly allowing the generator breaker and utility FPL breaker to close at the same time. This resulted in a short circuit phase to phase causing the rectifier in the tail section of the cities 800kw to malfunction. Since the generator is not functional until repairs are conducted, a temporary generator was installed to replace the Water Treatment Plant main 800kw generator. The temporary rental generator is needed to ensure the Water Treatment Plant has power if the connection to FP&L power is lost.
