USES ALLOWED IN RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS, BY ADDING “ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS” TO THE TABLE IDENTIFYING THE ZONING DISTRICTS WHERE PERMITTED; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS, SEVERABILITY, AND CODIFICATION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Staff has prepared an amendment to the Land Development Regulations related to "Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU)." The proposed amendment establishes standards to allow “Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU),” within the City provided certain criteria can be met. The proposal would allow ADU as an accessory use to a single-family residential unit.
Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) have become an increasingly important concept in modern municipal land-use regulation and residential zoning policy. ADU are generally understood as a smaller, secondary dwelling unit located on the same lot as a primary residence, designed to function as an independent living space with its own kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area.
