A resolution is required from the City Commission to approve the Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP) as required for the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program for submission, review, and approval by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
Need Summary Explanation/ Background:
Action is required to authorize and submit the City’s LHAP for review and approval prior to adoption.
As an eligible municipality participating in the State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP), the City is required to develop and implement a Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP). The plan is created to aid in making affordable residential units available to persons of very low, low, moderate income, and persons with special needs, including but not limited to, homeless people, the elderly, migrant farmworkers, and persons with disabilities.
The plans intend is to increase the availability of affordable residential units by combining local resources and cost-saving measures into a local housing partnership and using private and public funds to reduce the cost of housing.
