Request Action:
A resolution is needed to waive competitive bidding and approve the sole source designation for Stryker Medical to purchase four (4) motorized stair chairs for use by the Fire Department.

Need:
Approval is needed to replace existing 15-year-old stair chairs by purchasing new motorized chairs to aid in the removal or delivery of sick or injured persons residing in two-story homes, apartment/condominiums, or commercial buildings with stairs or inoperable elevators to eliminate potential liability to the City.

Summary Explanation/ Background:
Stryker Medical is the sole manufacture of the stair chairs to be purchased. The purchase of the stair chairs will increase the chances of fire-rescue saving lives, reduce the cost of insurance liability claims, and improve the City's safety standards.
The current stair chairs are 15 years old and in need of replacement. The purchase will allow the City to replace the old, outdated chairs on each Fire-Rescue truck to remove sick, injured, or individuals with limited mobility from houses with stairs and commercial and residential buildings with non-functioning elevators. Not only are they for removing individuals, but with the ever-increasing issues with elevators in the City, the Fire Department has been requested to take people up multiple floors to their apartments.
