RESOLUTION NO. 25R-10-207:  A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL, FLORIDA, APPROVING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL AND FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY (“FPL”) FOR THE PHASE 2 CONVERSION OF LIGHTING FACILITIES WITHIN THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE LED LIGHTING AGREEMENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE AGREEMENT; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE (REQUESTED BY CITY MANAGER, KENNIE HOBBS, JR.).

Need:

The Resolution is necessary to execute the Agreement to move forward with conversion of existing high-pressure sodium light fixtures to energy-efficient LED roadway lighting.

Summary Explanation / Background:

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) and the City of Lauderhill are engaged in a multi-phase project to replace existing high-pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights with energy-efficient LED fixtures. Phase 1 of the program has already been initiated, and Phase 2 expands the conversion to additional areas of the City. Under the proposed agreement, FPL will install, own, and maintain the LED fixtures while providing the energy required for their operation. The City will pay applicable monthly charges under FPL’s approved tariff and rate schedules. Approval of the resolution will allow the City Manager to execute the agreement and ensure continued progress toward citywide lighting upgrades that improve safety, efficiency, and long-term cost effectiveness.
