Request Action:
Pass an Ordinance authorizing the continued requirement to comply with CDC Guidelines on city premises to protect the health, safety and welfare of employees and members of the public while the city remains under a State of Emergency.

Need:
Pass an Ordinance to require continued compliance with CDC guidelines.

Summary Explanation/ Background:
On May 3, 2021, Governor Ron DeSantis passed Executive Order 21-102 which suspended all emergency orders that imposed any COVID-19 restrictions upon individuals or businesses. The effect of which would also apply to facial coverings and social distancing guidelines. While the Governor suspended any emergency orders, he went on to say in Section 4 that the Executive Order does not prohibit political subdivisions of the State from enacting ordinances pursuant to regular enactment procedures to protect the health, safety and welfare of its population. It is important to note that the Governor did not terminate, revoke or rescind the Declaration of the State of Emergency for Florida which remains in effect. The City of Lauderhill feels strongly that it is essential to continue to protect its employees, residents and members of the public who may choose to access and utilize city premises.
