Need:
To request aid assistance for local governments.
Summary Explanation/ Background:
COVID-19 has had widespread effects on all municipalities. The National League of Cities released data from over 900 municipalities showing the figures of the widespread effects. The survey found that 71% of cities, towns and villages believe that their government’s condition will worsen if Congress does not pass another stimulus. Since the state of the pandemic, cities have seen revenues decline by 21%, while incurring additional expenditures related to COVID-19 such as PPE, remote work technology and overtime pay to essential employees. Local governments need aid in order to help make up the budget gap. The City of Lauderhill urges and requests that the United States Congress pass a stimulus to include and approve fair and equitable budget aid for local governments as a result of the widespread effects of COVID-19. Commissioner Lawrence "Jabbow" Martin has requested this Resolution in support of aid for local governments.
