RESOLUTION NO. 25R-10-204: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL APPROVING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN BROWARD COUNTY AND THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL FOR STAFF SERVICES IN CONNECTION WITH HEARINGS BEFORE THE BROWARD COUNTY UNSAFE STRUCTURES BOARD; AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE RESOLUTION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE (REQUESTED BY CITY MANAGER KENNIE HOBBS, JR.).

Request Action:
Staff recommends approval of the resolution to enter into an Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with Broward County to utilize their unsafe structures board.
Need Summary Explanation/ Background:
The City does not have an “Unsafe Structures Board.” In 2020, the City attempted to utilized the Code Board as the “Unsafe Structures Board,” but it was determined that the board members did not have the proper credentials to do so. The City entered into an inter-local agreement with the County to utilize their board (Resolution: 20R-02-56), rather than creating and maintaining members for the board, since the need is not routinely called.
The term of that agreement was valid until September 30, 2024. We have been asked to monitor a couple of properties that appear to warrant the city’s action to take before the “Unsafe Structures Board,” and City Staff has been communicating with County Staff. If approved by the City Commission, this agreement will be valid until September 2030, with an option to renew for another 5 year period.
Cost Summary/ Fiscal Impact:
City to be invoiced monthly, per case brought to the County, with hourly rates of staff outlined in the agreement. The cost per case brought before the Board shall not exceed $1,000.00
