Need Summary Explanation/ Background:
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritious, low-cost or free lunches to over 30 million children in public and non-profit private schools daily in the United States, and is dedicated to the health and well-being of the children in Lauderhill. The benefits of the school breakfast program include enhanced academic performance and behavior by ensuring that students receive the nutrition they need to stay focused; and (ii) improving students’ nutritional intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. House Bill 1501 and Senate Bill 1674 seek to eliminate food insecurity among school children and requires each school district in Florida to participate in the NSLP and the School Breakfast Program. The Bills would also prohibit schools from denying students lunch regardless of whether a student has the money to pay for the lunch and breakfast.
