Title
RESOLUTION NO. 24R-07-132: A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE SOLID WASTE COLLECTION AND HAULING SERVICES AGREEMENT AND THE AMENDMENT TO THE RECYCLING COLLECTION SERVICES FRANCHISE AGREEMENTS BETWEEN THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL AND WASTE MANAGEMENT INC. OF FLORIDA TO EXTEND BOTH FRANCHISE AGREEMENTS FOR A TERM OF SIX (6) MONTHS WITH AN OPTION TO CONTINUE TO RENEW MONTHLY UNTIL THE AWARDED SERVICE HAULER IS READY TO PROVIDE SERVICES; PROVIDING THAT ALL THE SAME TERMS AND CONDITIONS WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL TERMINATED; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE (REQUESTED BY CITY MANAGER, DESORAE GILES-SMITH).
Body
Request Action:
Pass a Resolution to extend the terms of the Solid Waste and Recycling collection agreements for an additional six (6) months with the ability to continue on a month-to-month basis thereafter until the award hauler is setup up and ready to provide citywide services.
Need:
To extend the current contracts for the provision of solid waste and recycling services citywide until a new hauler is awarded and ready to provide services.
Summary Explanation/ Background:
In order to avoid any disruption in services, the City wants to ensure that the current hauler can continue to provide solid waste collection and hauling services and recycling collection services until the RFP process is completed and a hauler is awarded and the new hauler is set up and ready to provide services citywide. The procurement process typically takes a while, including the numerous follow up meetings and set up to ensure complete and continuous services for the residents. The city would like to extend the current contract and enable the ability to continue on a month-to-month basis if necessary until the awarded hauler is ready to provide services. If the contract is awarded to Waste Management then there may not be a need for the extensions and we would just enter into the new contract as appropriate.
