Request Action:
Consideration of an amendment to the Land Development Regulations to allow "Instructional" uses within the RMH-50 zoning district. The City of Lauderhill has received a request from an applicant, ScentsAbility, an accessory business to Chateau Mar Golf Resort who is looking to provide DIY ("Do It Yourself") candle making workshops within the RMH-50 zoning district. There is only one property within the City currently with this zoning designation, so the additional entitlements would be limited to that zoning designation. Based on both this request and observations by staff that an expansion of the zoning districts in which this use is permitted would be of benefit to the city and it's businesses, staff has prepared this proposed amendment to the Land Development Regulations.

Any amendment to the text of the Land Development Regulations requires City Commission action via two readings of an ordinance during publicly noticed hearings. Staff finds that permitting hotels in the RMH-50 district to host classes and workshops can benefit guests, residents, and local businesses. Many travelers are increasingly looking for unique experiences during their stay, and activities such as wellness programs, arts and crafts classes, or educational events can help meet that demand.
