Request Action:
A year ago, the city embarked on a project with Sound Thinking (Shot Spotter) to install gunshot detection technology in the city. This program went live in April 2023. Officers responding to Sound Thinking alerts have been fully trained to handle this as an in progress/active shooting event. The city has invested in additional officer safety equipment to ensure that our officers have the best protection. During the course of the year, we have experienced most of the Sound Thinking alerts occurring during the nighttime hours. As part of their training and response, officers who are qualified and certified to utilize a rifle may deploy with this weapon. Our current Sig Sauer rifles are not equipped with a lighting system which has created an officer safety concern, while deploying a rifle in low light and nighttime events. Though officers are issued a handheld flashlight, it is not conducive for use with this weapon. Therefore, we are requesting to use funding from the State Law Enforcement Trust fund not to exceed $16,000 to purchase rail-mounted flashlights to be installed on all of our rifles. This will significantly increase officer safety when deploying in low light and at night. Funding can be found in the State Law Enforcement Trust Fund with account #120-683-9935.
Need:
To cover cost for the rail-mounted flashlights to be installed on all of our officers’ rifles which will increase officer safety in low light and nighttime events. The amount not to exceed $16,000. Once this is approv...
