Need Summary Explanation/ Background:
The City of Lauderhill entered into an Interlocal Agreement for Solid Waste Disposal and Recyclable Materials Processing Authority of Broward County, Florida (the “ILA”) with Broward County, Florida, and twenty-eight municipalities in Broward County effective as of August 16, 2023, that created the Solid Waste Disposal and Recyclable Materials Processing Authority of Broward County ("Authority").Since then, the Solid Waste Working Group and subsequently the Authority have analyzed waste composition, waste generation, existing disposal capacity, and areas where significant improvements in solid waste management would yield economies of scale that are expected to result in lower processing and disposal costs, in order to achieve necessary goals of reduction, reuse and recycling to conserve needed disposal capacity. On April 17, 2026, the Governing Board of the Authority adopted a Master Plan that will enable the Parties to work collaboratively, for at least the next 40 years, to implement a long-term, environmentally sustainable, transparent, innovative, and economically efficient plan and approach to reduction, reuse, recycling, and disposal of solid waste generated in ...
