State the action requested of the Commission and why the action is necessary. What is the expected outcome of the action?
A request of the City Commission to approve a proposal in the amount not to exceed $117,379.00 from Southern Underground Industries for construction services, labor, equipment, material and incidentals required to replace defective valves and add new ones to improve operations for the City’s water distribution system along 82nd Avenue NW 47th street and N.W. 84th Avenue N.W.50TH Street.
Need:
Why is there a need for this action?
The Utilities Division has embarked on a valve replacement program to replace old defective valves within the water distribution system and waste water collections system that have exceeded their life expectancy and does not operate adequately. During emergencies within the water distribution system and waste water collections system, large numbers of residents are impacted when specific valves in these systems are functioning inadequately.

Aging infrastructure may cause large amounts of water/waste water loss if an area within these systems cannot be isolated through valve operation. There is a need for adding/replacing valves within water distribution system and waste water collections system in order to maintain a more flexible operation, attend to emergencies within these two systems, and execute maintenance activities to the infrastructure.
