State the action requested of the Commission and why the action is necessary.  What is the expected outcome of the action?

Request approving the piggyback purchase of outdoor fitness equipment for General Obligation (GO) Bond improvements to the Lauderhill Sports Park from an approved vendor based upond bids solicited by te School District of Palm Beach County Florida.

 

Need:

Why is there a need for this action?

The Sports Park fitness trail equipment is at the end of its lifespan and is in need of replacement.  The Sports Park fitness trail is heavily used by the community and the fitness equipment needs to be new and safe.

 

Summary Explanation/ Background:

Provide a summary/background of this agenda request.

 

The Lauderhill Sports Park fitness trail is the most active and heavily used trail of all the Lauderhill parks.  The equipment is in in need of replacement as it has outlived its lifespan. This new equipment will replace old rusting equipment with eleven new, safe, and inovative equipment stations that includes a cardio walker, accessible hand cycle, captains chair, leg extension, step around station, horizontal chin up, chest press, push up station, bench dip station, sit up station, and body curl station.  All stations will have an interlocking rubber tile surfacing for flooring.

 

The School District of Palm Beach County's contract contains amenity items such as  outdoor fitness equipment, playgrounds, playground surfaces, and shade structures that the Parks Department currently is in need of solicitng bids for.  The bid established a pool of pre-qualified vendors to furnish and install these amenites.  The School Board of Broward County also approved the piggyback purchase of park amenities from this contract award in 2012.
