Body

Appointments to the Educational Advisory Board (EAB) have expired and new appointments must be approved to ensure the board has a quorum and is able to continue meeting.

The following information has been prepared for your consideration:

I.                     REQUESTED ACTION

This Resolution is requested to approve the appointments to the EAB, as selected by individual Commissioners to fill the vacant and/or expired seats.

II.                     SUMMARY AND HISTORY/BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Code of Ordinances states that when a Commissioner's term ends or they leave office, any appointments they made, which have not otherwise expired, will automatically expire 60 days after their successor takes office unless the new Commissioner approves extending the existing appointment.

Dr. Taj-Marie Hunter was appointed by Mayor Denise D. Grant. During her term as Commissioner in Seat 4, for a term to expire November 2026 however, as Mayor Grant’s term in Seat 4 ended and she took office in Seat 5 as Mayor, this appointment is now considered to have automatically expired 60 days after Commissioner Campbell took office, leaving the seat vacant.

Commissioner Campbell has selected Dr. Taj-Marie Hunter to be reappointed to the seat for the remainder of an unexpired term that lasts four (4) year, to expire November 2026 or concurrent with the Commissioner seat, whichever shall occur first.

The appointment of Sarah McIntosh as regular board member, in association with seat 2, expired November 2024.

Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn has selected Veronica Boyd to be reappointed to the seat for the remainder of an unexpired term that lasts four (4) years, to expire November 2028 or concurrent with the Commissioner seat, whichever shall occur first.

III.                     FINANCIAL IMPACT

All board members receive a $50.00 stipend, per meeting attended.

IV.                     RECOMMENDATION/ACTION

It is recommended that the Commission approve the appointments as described above.
