Request Action:
Staff is requesting approval of a change order for Platinum General Contracting to incorporate required Police Substation enhancements into the existing south wing storefront renovations contract. The Police Substation design was finalized after Phase A was bid, resulting in added security and value-added structural elements not included in the original scope.
Need:
Approving this change order is the most efficient and cost-effective path forward.
Summary Explanation/ Background:
Phase A of the project was designed and bid prior to the finalization of the Police substation layout, security features, and material specifications. As the Police Substation design evolved, several mission-critical enhancements became necessary to meet law enforcement operational standards. Key modifications include the installation of Kevlar materials for ballistic protection along with the conversion of specialized wire-mesh wall systems to concrete block which improves strength and long-term durability.
