Body

Request Action:

Rescind and replace Resolution No . 24R-07-132 to instead provide for a twelve (12) month extension of the current solid waste collection and hauling services agreement and recycling collection services agreements between the City of Lauderhill and Waste Manage, Inc. of Florida. Providing rates for the twelve month period commencing October 1, 2024 to include sludge collection from the water treatment plant.

Need Summary Explanation/ Background:

The current Waste Management Solid Waste Collection and Hauling Services Agreement and Recycling Collection Services Franchise Agreements are due to expire September 30, 2024.  The CItiy is about to put out the Request for Proposal (RFP) proposal for publication which will remain open for a 90 day period to accommodate the meetings to discuss the intricate details for such contracts in the bidding process.  Once the process is completed it does typically take haulers time to mobilize and set a plan for service to be able to adequately provide the services in order to ensure there is no disruption to our residents or businesses.  In order to ensure continuity of service and to ensure the best rates available in the procurement process, the city is seeking to extend the current contract for a twelve (12) month period as that locks in the best rates until the RFP process can be completed and the bid awarded and the selected vendor has time to develop and action plan and get mobilized. The proposed rates that will be locked in include water treatment plant sludge collection services and a 3.5% Consumer Price Index (CPO) increase necessary to cover the cost for providing essential services.

Cost Summary/ Fiscal Impact:

Include projected cost, approved budget amount and account number, source of funds, and any future funding requirements
