Title

ORDINANCE NO. 25O-06-121: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 6, BUILDINGS AND BUILDING REGULATIONS, ARTICLE II, PUBLIC ART PROGRAM, SECTION 6-34, PUBLIC ART FUND, CLARIFYING AUTHORIZED USES OF THE FUND TO INCLUDE CAPITAL EXPENDITURES FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE LAUDERHILL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE (REQUESTED BY INTERIM CITY MANAGER, KENNIE HOBBS).

Body

Request Action:

In alignment with the City of Lauderhill’s ongoing commitment to promoting and sustaining the arts, staff is proposing  an amendment to Section 6-34 of the City Code relating to the use of the Public Art Fund.

Need Summary Explanation/ Background:

The current language of Section 6-34 places limitations on the types of expenditures that may be considered eligible under the Public Art Fund. While the fund rightfully supports artistic initiatives throughout the City, it does not explicitly authorize capital expenditures for one of the City’s most significant cultural assets-the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC). This proposed amendment would ensure that the LPAC continues to serve as a vibrant and state-of-the-art venue capable of supporting local, regional, and national arts programming. It would further align the City’s fiscal resources with its cultural and artistic priorities

Cost Summary/ Fiscal Impact:

Include projected cost, approved budget amount and account number, source of funds, and any future funding requirements
