RESOLUTION NO. 24R-01-10: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL ACCEPTING THE PROPOSAL FROM PREVIOUSLY COMMISSION-APPROVED QUALIFIED CONSULTANT, BCC ENGINEERING, LLC, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $83,500.70 FOR PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING SERVICES TO DESIGN THE DRAINAGE PLANS AND BID SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS EAST OF THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE (BASIN C) TO MITIGATE FLOODING PROBLEMS; PROVIDING FOR PAYMENT FROM BUDGET CODE NUMBER 450-925-06951; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE (REQUESTED BY CITY MANAGER, DESORAE GILES-SMITH).
Body
Request Action:
Commission approval for a contract with BCC Engineering LLC in the amount of $83,500.70 to design the drainage plans and bid specifications for the proposed improvements east of the Florida turnpike (Basin C).
Need:
The City has identified the need to mitigate the flooding problems in the vicinity of 51st Avenue by improving drainage conditions, establish new discharge areas and prevent the Turnpike's runoff from entering the residential neighborhood. The engineer consultant will design the corresponding improvements and components to the drainage system in order to solve the problem.
Summary Explanation/ Background:
When the sound-barrier wall was installed along the Turnpike, it cut/interrupted the discharge into an existing canal which no longer exists causing extreme flooding of the roads and driveways around the neighborhood. Any main rain event affecting the City will result in area flooding east of the Florida Turnpike because of this condition. The intent of the project is to add new drainage infiltration areas, establish new conveyance and discharge points and stop any outside runoff from entering the neighborhood. The design will include pipes, catch basin replacement, addition of french drains, reconfiguration of ditches and swales as well as the installation of control structures and check valves to avoid runoff entering the City. This firm is already an approved consultant based on the agreement for the Miscellaneous Professional Services for the City.
