Request Action:

Pass a Resolution to oppose increasing the statutory limits of liability applicable to local governments for tort claims.

 

Need:

To oppose an increase in the statutory limits of liability applicable to local governments for tort claims.

 

Summary Explanation/ Background:

Two bills have been proposed this Legislative Session to increase the limits of liability applicable to local governments for total claims.  House Bill 1129 and Senate Bill 1678 both seek to increase the limits of liability from the current limits of $200,000 per person up to $500,00 per person; and from the current aggregate for all claims arising from the same incident or occurrence from $300,000 up to $$1 million and to provide for annual increases in those amounts for inflation.
