Request Action:

An Ordinance to amend the City Code of Ordinances Chapter 8, Elections, Section 8-10, Code of Ethics for Candidates for Public Office to add a penalty provision for violations.

 

Need:

To create specific penalties for violations of the code of ethics for candidates for public office.

 

Summary Explanation/ Background:

The City of Lauderhill currently has a Code of Ethics for Candidates of Public Office, but it does not contain any penalty provision if a violation is committed.  This Ordinance provides for a civil penalty up to $500 per day/per violation, as well as the ability to refer the matter to the Florida Elections Commission for investigation and further action if deemed appropriate.
