Seeking Commission approval authorizing Southern Underground Industries to proceed with the removal and replacement of the existing gravity sewer manhole and gravity sewer pipe that is approximately 18 feet deep located at the intersection of NW 49th Avenue and NW 21st street which is broken.

 

Need:

Why is there a need for this action?

 

Remove and replace the existing gravity sewer manhole and gravity sewer pipe that is approximately 18 feet deep located at the intersection of NW 49th Avenue and NW 21st street which is broken leading lift station #1 wet well. During the replacement of the existing manhole the intersection will have to be closed and Maintenance of Traffic will be necessary to redirect traffic until repairs are complete. The maintenance of traffic will include, Barricades, cones, road close signs and variable message boards while restoration of the intersection is completed.

 

 

 

Summary Explanation/ Background:

Provide a summary/background of this agenda request.

 

On Monday, November 18, 2019, it was discovered that a sink hole had developed in the south bound travel lane of NW 49th Avenue. An assessment (Video Inspection) of the gravity sewer manhole and gravity sewer pipe which determined that the manhole was leaking and the gravity sewer pipe was severely broken. The manhole and gravity sewer pipe, which is approximately 18 feet deep, and is in need of replacement. The assessment has determined that the area will need to be excavated in order to replace the broken manhole and conduct a point repair to replace the broken gravity sewer pipe.
