Body

Request Action:

Pass a Resolution approving the Six-Month Pilot Program to authorize commercial business owners within the City of Lauderhill's Commercial Arts and Entertainment (CAE) Overlay District to have the ability to host one (1) outdoor event per week during the pilot program period subject to all of the required terms and conditions and the submittal and approval of a Special Event Application

Need:

To permit businesses within the CAE District to be able to hold more than 4 promotional events per year and to allow up to one outdoor event per week for each business during this pilot program.

Summary Explanation/ Background:

The City Code of Ordinances currently limits promotional/special events to be held a maximum of four (4) times per year (up to 3 consecutive days in a row). This pilot program would enable business owners within the Commercial Arts and Entertainment (CAE) District to be able to hold one (1) outdoor special event per week (Thursday through Sunday) subject to the required terms and conditions of the Special Event Application during the pilot program period.

The businesses will be required to provide the necessary security, policing, and name the City of Lauderhill as an Additional Insured under the insurance policy for the event.  In addition, no outdoor music will be permitted. If more than one business is hosting an event on the same day, then events must be filed as a joint application that is coordinated with and approved with sole discretion of the City (limitations may apply). The application must  be submitted at least thirty (30) days prior to the event and is subject to City approval.  The pilot program will run for a six (6) month period ending June 30, 2024.
