Request Action:
A resolution is requested from the City Commission to waive the competitive bidding process and approve the use of the Florida Sheriff’s Association cooperative purchase plan (piggyback) Contract FSA20-EQU18.0 for Heavy Equipment.
Need:
Action is required for staff to waive competitive bidding process and approve the use of Florida Sheriff’s Association cooperative purchase plan (Piggyback) to purchase two (2) portable bypass pumps and one (1) trailer for the purpose of flood mitigation.
Summary Explanation/ Background:
Residents experience significant flooding in areas city-wide during severe rain events such as hurricanes and flash floods. Critical areas include Central, St.George/Broward Estates, Maple Run, and Lake A/Canal A. The bypass pumps and trailer purchase will allow staff to deploy flood mitigations city-wide in the event of severe flooding during extreme rain events. Utilizing the Florida Sheriff’s Association contract saves approximately $25,000 and allows the City to be proactive in mitigating water levels during and after flooding.
