Request Action:
Approve the Preliminary Rate Resolution relating to fire rescue services, facilities, and programs within the City of Lauderhill. Approval initiates the annual process to update the Fire Rescue Assessment Roll, establishes the proposed FY 2027 assessment rates, authorizes the required public hearing, and directs notice by publication and mail so the City may proceed with reimposition and collection of the assessment on the ad valorem tax bill.
Need:
This action is required each year to continue using the uniform assessment collection method and to fund a portion of the costs of providing fire rescue services to assessed properties. It also provides affected property owners with statutory notice and an opportunity to be heard before final adoption.
Summary Explanation/ Background:
The resolution is adopted pursuant to the City Fire Rescue Assessment Ordinance (Ordinance No. 00O-6-39), the Amended and Restated Initial Assessment Resolution (No. 17R-07-184), the Amended and Restated Final Assessment Resolution (No. 17R-09-235), the City Charter, and applicable Florida law. It affirms the findings of special benefit and fair apportionment, incorporates the revised Fire Rescue Assessment and establishes an estimated FY 2027 Fire Rescue Assessed Cost of $25,282,166. The proposed residential rate is $685 per dwelling unit; non-residential rates are based on property use category and building square footage.

Cost Summary/ Fiscal Impact:
Estimated Fire Rescue Assessed Cost: $25,282,166 for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2026. Assessment proceeds will be used only for fire rescue services, facilities, and programs. Any remaining costs not funded through the assessment, if any, will be funded from legally available City revenues other than assessment proceeds. No additional appropriation is requested by adoption of the Preliminary Rate Resolution. Source of funds: Fire Rescue Assessment revenues and legally available City revenues included in the FY 2027 budget.
