RESOLUTION NO. 26R-08-149: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL, FLORIDA, RATIFYING THE APPROVAL OF THE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR WHICH PROVIDES FOR THE ASSIGNMENT OF TWO (2) CITY OF LAUDERHILL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO SERVE AS SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS AT PARTICIPATING BROWARD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY AND REIMBURSEMENT TO THE CITY IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $238,470.80 FOR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER SERVICES; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY TO DO ALL THINGS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THIS RESOLUTION; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE (REQUESTED BY CITY MANAGER KENNIE HOBBS, JR.).

Request Action:
Approval of the School Resource Officer Agreement between the City of Lauderhill and the School Board of Broward County, Florida, for the provision of School Resource Officer (SRO) services for the 2026-2027 school year, and authorize the appropriate City officials to execute all necessary documents.
Need Summary Explanation/ Background:
The School Board of Broward County (SBBC) has established a School Resource Officer Program in accordance with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. Under the proposed Agreement, the City of Lauderhill will provide law enforcement officers to serve as School Resource Officers at participating SBBC schools located within the City.
The Agreement is effective August 3, 2026, and concludes June 1, 2027, unless terminated earlier in accordance with its provisions. The City will assign two (2) law enforcement officers to serve as SROs at the participating schools providing for reimbursement to the City in the total amount of $238,470.80 for school resource officer services.
The participating schools and assignments are:
• Parkway Middle School: One (1) SRO
• Lauderhill 6-12: One (1) SRO
The Agreement provides for SRO services during the regular school year, including employee planning days, and establishes the respective responsibilities of the City and SBBC regarding staffing, training, school safety, records, and administration of the SRO Program.
Staff recommends approval of the School Resource Officer Agreement between the City of Lauderhill and The School Board of Broward County for the 2026-2027 school year to ensure continued School Resource Officer coverage at the participating schools.
