Body
Request Action:
Pass a Resolution rejecting the state preemption of regulations on local businesses.

Need:
To prevent local governments from being preempted by the State regarding the regulations of local businesses.

Summary Explanation/ Background:
Commissioner Hayward J. Benson, Jr. has requested a Resolution to urge the legislature to reject House Bill 17 which would impose new regulations on businesses and provide for State preemption of the regulations of local businesses which would supersede local government regulation. This would take away City's home rule authority. Any local government regulations adopted prior to January 1, 2017 (without general law authority) would expire on January 1, 2020.
